A series of violent explosions occurred. and these smashed every window in the building, also many windows of houses and shops for miles around. The noise was heard in some distant suburbs. Dense volumes of black rising from the ruins, enveloped the whole district. A local hotel suffered much damage, even doors and shelves being displaced and debris littered in every room. Nobody was hurt. The Defence Department’s cordite factory, in the same vicinity, escaped damage.
