RISE IN WOOL PRICES.

Marked Advance at Christchurch. KEEN AND EXCITED BIDDING. By Telezraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH. March 3. Prices realised at the wool sale today showed an advance of twopence to threepence on those of the January sale. The catalogue comprised 13,121 bales, mostlv back-country clips. The quality was below the average of catalogues at this period of the year. Bidding throughout the sale was keen, and often excited. Practically the whole catalogue was cleared. Japan was a keen buyer for all serviceable fine wools. Bradford bought extensively, and France also was in the market. Comoared with the January auction, Corriedale was better by 2id to 3d,; merino by slightly less; and crossbred by 2d. There was a good demand for fine crossbred, and f he scale of prices was more than a penny per pound bet--2r than at the opening sale in December. __ Top price of the sale was 103 for 33 bales of half-bred. The Federal Labour caucus recoin- „ mends the Ministry to remove the export duty of id per lb. on sheepskins in the wool, which has operated since December 17th, concerning which a bitter controversy led to the complete dislocation in the industry. The Government will act immediately. It will also refund all amounts paid in duty.
