WAIMATAITAI SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Waimataitai School Committee was held last evening, those present being— Messrs G Benstead (chairman), H. Naylor, G. G. Lewis, J. G. Jowsey, C. H. Johnson, F. Oxford, H. L. Warsaw, P. E. Clark. Headmaster's Report. The headmaster (Mr R. A. Malcolm) reported that the attendance for the past four weeks had been very good indeed, and the roll number was slowly increasing. A number of children from the Hawke’s Bay district had been admitted to the school. The children responded splendidly to the earthquake appeal fund, contributing £24 11s 6d, in addition to which the staff contributed £l9 ss. Besides this, the putils sold £9 2s worth of tickets for the Schools’ swimming sports, the whole proceeds of which were to go to the relief fund, so that the total amount contributed by the school was £52 18s 6d. The Schools’ swimming sports were to be held next day, 200 entries having been received. The staff desired the Committee to sanction the expenditure of about £1 on the purchase of some large posters of historical vaiue, to be hung in the school. At a meeting of the Headmasters’ Association, it had been suggested that, instead of holding a combined schools concert in aid of the dental clinic, each school should provide an amount each year in proportion approximately to their roll number. With respect to the matter of the dental clinic, the chairman said lie believed in supporting the clinic, but it was a question of how much the school should provide. In the past Waimataitai had contributed more than its quota. Mr Malcolm said it had been suggested that the proportion of contribution should be Waimataitai £l4, Main School £l2, South and West £9 each.

Mr Clark suggested that the school should be responsible for its quota. Mr Naylor moved that the Committee endorse the principle of levying upon the schools in proportion to the number of scholars, as suggested by the headmaster.

Mr Jowsey seconded the motion, which was carried.

The report was adopted. Accounts amounting to £23 10s were passed for payment.
