COLLIE DOG CLUBS.

CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Collie Dog Club Association was held in the Central Dairy Company’s office at Addington. Present—Messrs H. T. Chapman (president). S. Barclay, Little River; D. Stewart, Albury; R. D. J. Iness, Malvern; J. Stackhouse, Omihi-Waipara; and J. Kennedy, Geraldine. Apologies were received from D. G. Cain, F. E. South and R. M. Morten. Report and Balance Sheet. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, the president said that the annual trials had been ver£ successful from the point of view of competition, but financially they could not be called a success, as the entries were smaller than in the previous year. The credit balance from the trials was about £ll, but expenses for fencing material had reduced that to £4. The formation of a South Island Association, which had .been agreed to in the previous year, had been accomplished during the year. The secretary had visited Dunedin in June at the invitation of the Southern Collie Dog Club Association, and they had agreed to meet in Christchurch during carnival week, and the Marlborough Association was also represented. Unfortunately, the speaker had been unable to attend the meeting. It had been decided to form an Association for the South Island, and the Canterbury Association had been asked to draft a programme for a South Island Association championship. Since that time the sheep men had struck a severe depression, and it was a question whether it would be wise to go on with the meeting. Personally, he thought that it should be postponed this year. Mr R. D. J. Iness seconded the motion, and mentioned that the trial grounds might be improved before the next trials. If they were not going to run the trials the South Island championships might be taken up by the Southern Association. These should be offered to them. The report and balance sheet were adopted. No Championships This Year. Correspondence was received from a number of clubs advising that they were considering supporting the South Island Association when they held their annual meetings. After a lengthy discussion on the advisability of holding the championship meeting this year, Mr J. Stackhouse moved that the Canterbury championship meeting be postponed for this year, and as this will entail the dropping of the South Island championship, that the other Association be advised to take them up if requir°d. This was seconded by Mr Chapman, and carried. As all championship trophies were held by Mr John Anderson, it was j decided to leave them in Mr Anderson’s possession at present.
