INDIA’S TENNIS PLAYERS.
GOOD FORM IN CALCUTTA TOURNAMENT. United Press Association—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright (Received December 29, 9.5 p.m.) DELHI, December 28. That India possesses many promising tennis players, was evidenced when, Austin and Olliff (England), were defeated in the semi-final of the Calcutto championships by Sham Singh and D. N. Kappoor, who had never played together before, the Indians winning, 6-8, 6-3, 6-3. Andrews (New Zealand) and Olliff (England), have been eliminated from the mixed doubles.
M. Sleem, whom Tilden once called the world’s greatest baseline player, set Austin a hard task in the semi-final of the Calcutta championships. Austin won by 4-6, 6-2, 6-0. Andrews beat Olliff 6-2, 6-3, playing spectacular tennis. Austin and Andrews meet in the final to-morrow.
