HOMESTEAD DESTROYED. By Telepraph—Press Association BLENHEIM, December 29. A £ire early yesterday morning destroyed the homestead of Mr Thomas Walker, of Grassmere, together with the contents. The house comprised ten rooms, and was formerly a well-known accommodation house. The origin of the outbreak is a mystery. Mr Walker was in the house alone, having just returned from Hanmer! His wife and son were left at Hanmer. Mr Walker was awakened about 2 o’clock in the morning to discover the house ablaze, and he escaped in his night attire. The flames made a clean sweep. The insurances on the house are £7OO and on the contents £4OO. There is a separate cover of £135 on a player piano. Mr Walker is a heavy loser. Many valuable possession were lost, including a lump of ambergris worth £75.
