MILLION DOLLAR DEBUT.
Extravagance In U.S.A. MOST LAVISH SOCIAL EVENT. United Press Association—By ElecQrlo Tel eg r aph—Coprrlftht (Received December 28, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, December 27. A million dollar debut party of rare proportions was given the night after Christmas, when Mr Henry Doherty, oil magnate, and Mrs «Doherty, presented their daughter Helen to society. Neither of the women wore jewels, but special trains from the principal cities in the United States brought their guests. The entire floor of the largest hotel, with several ball rooms, was engaged. Several thousand persons attended, and the extent and expensiveness of the decorations, music, refreshments, etc., made the event the most lavish of its kind in the history of American society. It is understood the outlay involved a million dollars.
