The discovery that there was an unexpected balance of unemployed relief works loans amounting to £40,000, at the same time as the recommendation was tabled that preparation should be made to raise another £15,000 for unemployment relief, provoked critrcism of the Works’ Committee at r st meeting of the City Council, and ■ Is were made for an investigation, te a. - elude the engineering department. The clause was taken back by the Committee that brought it forward.
