(A message received on July 29 stated that following the auction sale of the household furniture seized by the bailiffs for non-payment of rent in a suburb of Clovelly, a party of Communists, vowing vengeance on the landlord, broke into the evicted person’s cottage, smashed the fittings and windows, wrecked the gas stove, bath and fence, and chalked the walls. The party then returned to the Communist Hall. Plain clothes police detectives raided the Communist head quarters and a fierce clash ensued. The police felled several men with batons, and finally arrested eleven, accompanied by jeers, language and threat*^
