ONE ACT PLAYS.
AWARDS IN DRAMA LEAGUE’S COMPETITION. During an interval between the plays at the festival of community drama last night, Dr. Unwin (president of the South Canterbury Drama League) announced the judge's findings in the Drama League’s one-act play competition. The judge was Mr J. W. Shaw, of Auckland, and the prize (very generously donated by Dr. Unwin) was £lO 10s. The plays (eleven in number) which were sent in under nom de plumes, were described by the judge “for the most part as admirable; as a whole the dialogue is well managed, with a sense of character and dramatic sense.” The following are the awards: “Rabbits,” by Mrs A. G. Targuse (Timaru), first prize. “The Telegram,” by Miss Harris (Timaru), second. “The Return,” by Miss Betty Kerr (Kingsdown), third. Dr. Unwin congratulated the writers of the plays on the excellence of their work and he announced that the Drama League had decided to award second prize of £3 3s and third prize £2 2s. It was the intention of the League to produce the plays at the Little Play House at an early date.
