FASHIONABLE WEDDING

WHITE—ELWORTHY. Yesterday afternoon, the beautiful church of St. Mary's formed a picturesque setting for the -.arriage cf Rona, second daughter of Mr and M~s Herbert Elworthy, Craigmore, ’ and Alan Patrick, son of Mr and Mrs Kin-ross-White, of Hawke’s Bay. The decorations in the church, chosen to match the frocks of the bridal party, were in tones of gold and cream. On the altar were masses of arum lilies, freezias, and narcissi. Large clusters of arum lilies and tree-ferns were used in tn«_ Chancel, and wattle, gorse, freezias and jonquils decorated the chair-stalls and pulpit, forming an effective back ground for the golden frocks of . the bridesmaids. On her arrival at the church the graceful bride was met at the door by choristers, who preceded her, singing “Lead Us Heavenly Father, Lead Us.” Her beautiful medieval briday frock of ivory ring velvet was cut on straight simple lines, the skirt slightly lcnger at the back, and bordered with a ruching of satin. A long tight-sleeved bodice was cut with a square neck, out-lined with pearls, the sleeves being finished with a row of tiny buttons to the elbow. A girdle of woven pearls finished with long tassels was Knotted loosely in front, and fell to the foot of the frock. The long train, which hung from the waist, was of ivory and gold faconne embossed in chenille, lined with gold tissue and cut to fall ( softly on either side. From a juliet cap of pearls arranged with a spray of orange blossoms at the side, hung a cream silk net embroidered veil, which had been worn by her grandmother on her wedding day. A diamond pendant and a large spray of freezias were a charming finish to a most attractive toilette. Mr Herbert Elworthy gave his daughter away. The service, which was fully choral, was conducted by tm> Rev. W. H. Monaghan, vicar of St. Mary’s, assisted by the Rev. J. Hay, St. Andrews. The bridesmaids, Misses Cecil, Elizabeth and Josephine Elworthy (sisters of the bride), Nancy Bond (cousin of the bride), Margery Gibson and Hilda Montgomery (Little River) were frocked alike in becoming gowns of gold panne velvet, made with long skirts, and long-sleeved bodices cut with square necks and finished with medici collars of gold lace. They wore juliet caps of gold pearls, and gold shoes and stockings. Their gold bar brooches set with a single opal and posies of yellow tonquils and primroses were the gifts of the bridegroom. Mr Ewan Campbell (Horonui) was best man. and Messrs H Elworthy, J. Elworthy, P. Borthwick, R. Bothell fNorth Canterbury) and B. Blundell (Wellington), were groomsmen. The ushers’ duties were carried out by Messrs P. Boyle, B. Thomas and F. O’Rorke.

A reception was afterwards held at Craigmore, where the guests were received by Mr and Mrs Elworthy. Through the reception rooms the yellow colour scheme was continued, bowls of wattle and narcissi being everywhere. Afternoon tea was served in a large marquee, small tables for the guests being decorated with jonquils, and the long bridal table was most artistic with its silver bowls of violets and white heather. Many kindly references were made to the popularity of the bride, especially as one of the straigfitest riders of the South Canterbury Hunt.
