DUKE OF NORTHUMBERLAND.
SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT. British Official Wireless RUGBY, August 18. A bulletin issued to-day regarding the Duke of Northumberland, who has been seriously ill since undergoing an operation, says: The Duke had a very fair night. A slifht Improvement in his general condition is noted. Hopes of strengthening his condition by blood transfusion were abandoned after many tests to find one of the British Red Cross Society’s volunteers with blood comparative with that of the Duke. All tests revealed that the blood was not suitable. Lord Fercy, the eldest son of the Duke, was one of the first of the volunteers. “It is uncommon for us to be unable to find someone with blood to suit an individual case,” an official of the ; British Red Cross blood-transfusion service said, “though I have known similar instances. We have a thousand volunteers who will give their blood willingly when called upon.” he added. LATEST BULLETIN. NOT FREE FROM FEVER. British Official Wireless RUGBY, August 19. The Duke of Northumberland spent a fair night. The slight improvement is maintained. Blood transfusions are now no longer considered advisable, but he is not yet free from fever.
