PERSONAL.
Mr A. J. Allport was last evening elected a member of the Council of the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. Mr T. Forsyth, who had been chairman of the Wellington Education Board for the past twelve years, has been elected chairman for a further two years. At a meeting in Wellington yesterday of the Executive Council, presided over by His Excellency the GovernorGeneral, the Hon. Robert Masters M.L.C., was sworn in as a member of the Executive Council without portfolio. Mr Masters will fill the vacancy caused by the death of Sir Joseph Ward. In the absence of Sir T. R. Sidey, he will also act as Leader of the Legislative Council. The Rev. J. M. Beaufort, M.A. until lately assistant chaplain at King’s College. Auckland, has been appointed headmaster of King’s Preparatory School, Remuera. in succession to the Rev. J. G. T. Castle. M.A. The appointment has been made by the joint managers of the school, Archbishop Averill. who is at present in England, and Mr C. T. Major. Mr Beaufort, who went to England early this year, will return and take up his duties at the beginning of next year. Mr G. Berryman, who is to leave Timaru shortly for Christchurch, was last night met by members of the Orchestral Society, at the conclusion of practice, and presented with a handsome set of silver fish knives and servers, in recognition of his services to the Society during the past five years. Mr Berryman was one of the members responsible for tht revival of the Society in 1926. The presentation was made by the president (Mr G. H. Andrews), who eulogised the good work Mr Berryman had done on behalf of the Society, and wished him every success in his new sphere. The conductor (Mr F. J. Hyde), endorsed the president’s remarks, and Mr Berryman made suitable acknowledgment of the gift.
