WEST END.

RATEPAYERS' ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of the Executive of the West End Ratepayers' and Householders’ Association was held in the West School on Saturday evening, when there was a good attendance, Mr J. E. Chiles presiding. The secretary reported that Mr M. Vucetich and himself had waited on the Rev. Clyde Carr, M.P.. with reference to the petitions asking for a public call telephone office in Higlifield, and stating that 164 signatures of persons not having telephones had been appended thereto. Mr Carr had given the deputation a sympathetic hearing, had taken charge of the petition, and had promised to present it to the Minister in charge of that Department, and to do what he could to further the object in view. The secretary explained that as the placing of two extra lights in Lough and Guthrie Streets had not been considered necessary, he had -suggested to the gas engineer that two lights be placed in Avenue Road, between Lough and Church Streets. The engineer promised to look into the matter. Mr Chiles then asked Mr D. N. Harper, curator of the Timaru Parks, who was present by invitation, to give the Association some idea o a comprehensive scheme of improvements for West End Park. Mr- Harper, who' went into the subject pretty fully, and who answered several question.-; by members, said that he would always be pleased to assist the Association in any effort it might make in that direction. Mr Harper was heartily thanked for his attendance.
