AUSTRALIAN HURDLES. MOSS TROOPER WINS AGAIN. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received August 3. 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, August 3. The Victoria Amateur Turf Club's meeting was held at Caulfield in fine weather. The big race resulted: — AUSTRALIAN HURDLES. Moss Trooper, 11.12 (Harris) .. 1 Lord Darnley. 9.4 (Richards) .. 2 Kentle, 11.8 (Webster) 3 All started. Rossgole was the pacemaker for a considerable part of the journey, and led over the first hurdle from Paul T and Reonui. At the mile Swahilli had taken second place. Going out of the straight the second time, Rossgole was eight lengths ahead of Swahilli, Paul T, Reonui and Moss Trooper. A mile from home the gap had increased to twelve lengths, but nearing the top of the hill Rossgole was passed by Swahilli. while Polygonum moved into a good position but fell. Three furlongs from home Moss Trooper, coming steadily along, overhauled the tiring Swahilli. who at the last jump was headed by Lord Darnley, and Kentle, under the whip, secured third place. Reonui was fourth. Moss Trooper won by three lengths, four lengths separating second and third. Time—6min 12isec. Moss Trooper was warmly acclaimed on returning to scale. He has won this event twice, also the Australian Steeplechase and two Grand Nationals. He is considered the best jumper seen in Australia, and tops the stake winnings over hurdles. In former years the Hunt Club meeting was always held one week after the Gisborne Racing Club’s steeplechase meeting, but this year, due to the visit of the British Rugby team, the Racing Club’s meeting was advanced a week.
