Statement By Chancellor. PROBLEM OF GOLD SUPPLY. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received July 25, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, July 24. Mi* Philip Snowden announced in the House of Commons that it was hoped Parliament would be prorogued to-morrow week. Parliament would reassemble on October 28. Control of Gold. The Chancellor of the Exchequer was asked what steps he proposed te arrive at in an international agreement for the rationing and economising use of gold, in order to stabilise its value in relation to the commodity prices. Mr Snowden replied that the causes in the fluctuation in the vaule of gold were under consideration by a delegation of the financial committee of the League of Nations, which was expected to report of the League. This would also, he had no doubt, be considered by the Committee on Finance and Industry set up by the Government.

Asked if he would make representations at the forthcoming Imperial Conference, with a view to rationalising and economy in the gold supply, Mr Snowden said he did not think it fell within the province of the Imperial Conference. It was wholly an international question.
