WAIMATE.

HARRIERS CLUB. That a Harriers’ Club, to be called St. Paul’s Harriers’ Club, be formed, was the decision of a meeting held on Monday evening for the purpose. The election of officers resulted as follow's:—Patron, the Mayor (Mr G. Dash); president, Rev. W. B. Scott; vice-presidents, Messrs H. Dash and L. J. Collins; secretary, Mr L. A. Lumsden; treasurer, Mr E. J. Morrison; committee, Messrs R. Thompson, S. Warren, W. E. Bayne, and C. Veitch. The following decisions were made: That the Club be an inclusive one, all names to be submitted tfc> the Committee before becoming members. That all offices of the Club must be filled only by those connected with the church. That the uniform consist of white running singlet and black shorts, with gold stripe. That the subscription for all members be 2/6. RUGBY SUB-UNION. The weekly meeting of the Waimate Sub-Union was held on Monday. Present:—Mr A. Sawell (president), and Messrs Winning, Kilworth, Dench, Webster, and the secretary (Mr I. Catto). Correspondence. The Rev. W. B. Scott forwarded his resignation as sole selector. It was decided to accept the resignation, and the secretary was instructed to return his season’s ticket to him. The secretary of the Waitaki SubUnion wrote notifying that his committee was unable to accept July 31 for the Waimate-Waitaki match, but offered the 2nd., 9th., and 23rd. August as alternatives. He advised that it was Waimate’s turn to visit Kurow, and that the ground had been made ready for the match.—lt was decided to hold the matter over till next meeting. The secretary of the Waimate Carriers’ and Railways’ Clubs forwarded a letter of thanks for the use of Manchester Park for their game, and enclosed £2/15/4 collected at the match for charitable purposes.—lt was decided to donate the amount to the Waimate Ambulance Association. The secretary of the Mackenzie SubUnion forwarded a letter of thanks for the hospitality extended to the representative team when in Waimate, and suggested August 7 as the date for the Burnett Shield match at Fairlie, or 14th. if the former date was not suitable.—The secretary to advise that the 7th. August would be suitable. Mr Boland was appointed sole selector, vice Rev. W. B. Scott, resigned. G. Stewart was granted permission to play for Southern seniors. It was decided to make a grant up to £5 to the Southern Club as travelling allowance to Fairlie for Burnett Shield match. Thursday’s Matches. Knock-out competition—Final: Senior. —Southern v. Old Boys, No. 2 ground, at 3 p.m. Junior. —Huimai v. Old Boys, No. 1 ground, at 3 p.m. Fourth round, third grade.—Huimai v. School, No. 3, at 3 p.m. Players for Thursday. GENERAL. In addition to the two miniature cups presented by Mr G. Sadler to the paper-weight boxers on Saturday last, the following also donated trophies:—Messrs E. A. Craighead, J. Halliday, D. Newall and the C.F.C.A. PRESENTATION. Prior to severing his connection with the C.F.C./. , Mr W. F. George, manager of the saddlery department, was met by the manager and members of the staff, and presented with a dinner service. The manager, Mr J. B. Sinclair, when making the presentation, expressed regret at losing Mr George, who, he said, had been a capable and faithful employee for 11 years, and on behalf of the staff and himself he wished him every success in his new venture. Messrs J. Bird (grain department) R. Cameron and J. Mumford (hardware department), Mr Heriot (grocery branch), and Mr Ellis (head accountant), also spoke of Mr George’s many good qualities, and wished luck in his future career. Apologies were received from Mr Colville (implement department), and Mr M. Friel (land and auctioneers’ branch), who were unable to be present. Mr George, on behalf of himself and his wife, thanked them all for their ; kind gift and good wishes, j The Commercial Travellers, on behalf of the leather goods branch, also recently made a presentation to Mr Georc-e.

BASKETBALL. Following is the draw for the Waimate Basketball Association’s competitions for Thursday:— A. Grade. —High School No. 1 v. St. Patrick's, No. 3 grounds, at 3 p.m. (Miss Borrie); Waimate No. 1 v. Willowbridge, No. 3 grounds, at 4 p.m. (Miss Borrie); High School No. 2 v. Waimate No. 2, No. 2 grounds, at 3 p.m. (Miss Robertson); Konini a bye. B. Grade. —High School v. St. Patrick's, on No. 2 grounds, at 4 p.m. (Miss Watson). C. Grade. —On Wednesday, at 3.30, High School No. 2 will play Primary No. 1, at the Primary School grounds (Miss Dunn referee). GOLF. There was . a large attendance of members of both the Ladies’ and the Men’s Clubs last Friday at a meeting held to discuss the question of obtaining new links. After members of the Committee explained the new proposals, it was j unanimously decided to acquire land over which an option had been ! obtained. The new links will be situated about a mile from the Post j Office on sunny undulating land, and have an area of about 37 acres. The 1 layout will provide a nine-hole course

about 300 yards longer than the present links, and while it will provide good golling conditions it will not have the serious drawbacks of the present links. The Committee expects that, given favourable conditions in the spring and summer, the new course will be available for play next season.
