THE WEATHER.
Mr F. L. Wooles. Winds strong westerly to southerly; weather, mild conditions giving place to a cold stormy change with rain and sleet showers. Dominion Meteorologist. An anti-cyclone has moved on to northern New Zealand. A vigorous and extensive depression of the westerly type is centred over Tasmania. Expect winds moderate eouth-westerly north of Cape Egmont and Napier, veering later to northerly; elsewhere northwesterly to northerly, freshening, and later reaching gale force from Cook Strait southwards. Seas rising south of Cape Egmont and off shore south of Castlepoint; otherwise smooth to moderate. Weather cloudy and unsettled in the western and southern districts of the South Island, with some rain, elsewhere mainly fair, but more generally unsettled conditions probable after about twenty-four hours. Temperatures milder, particularly in eastern districts.
