SOCIAL NOTES.

Mr and Mrs D. W. Kain, Kurow, left on Wednesday for the north. Mrs Ensor, North Canterbury, is the guest of Mrs C. S. Bruce, Douglas Street.

Mrs G. H. Miller, Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs W. Palmer, Wai-iti Road.

Mr and Mrs Wyvern Price, Braemar, Waihaorunga, are spending a few weeks in Dunedin.

Mrs Raymond Appleby, Lindis Pass, who is staying at the Grosvenor, will leave to-day for Waimate. Mr and Mrs G. Shirtcliffe, Wellington, have left on a visit to San Francisco.

Miss Lily MacLaren will arrive from Dunedin to-morrow to stay with Mrs Thomson, Bidwill Street. Miss Mai Scott, who was the guest of Mrs A. E. Kerr, Elizabeth Street, has returned to Cannington.

Mrs Appleby, who was the guest of Miss Ethel Le Cren, Evans Street, for the Kain-Appleby wedding, returned to Christchurch yesterday.

Mrs Campbell Geddes, Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs C. Bowker, Sarah Street. Miss Trissie Geddes will arrive from Dunedin to-day to spend a few days with Mrs Bowker. Colonel and Mrs W. Shakespeare, Auckland, who have been paying a round of visits in South Canterbury, left yesterday for Little River en route for the North Island. Miss Ruth Innes-Jones, younger daughter of Archdeacon Innes-Jones, Wellington, was quietly married to Mr Douglas Sibley (England), on Wednesday. Mr Sibley is taking his bride home to England to live soon.' The engagement is announced of Agnes, the second daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Smith, 11 Symond Street, Wanganui, to Alfred Edward, second son of Mr and Mrs A. W. Gillum, John Street, Temuka.

Two of the New Zealand delegates to the QUinquennial Council meeting of the International Council of Women —Miss H. K. Lovell-Smith (Christchurch), and Mrs A. J. Harrop —arrived in Vienna on May 24, and the next day they met the other two New Zealand delegates—Mrs Donald Grant (who is a resident in Vienna) and Miss W. Beardesley. Miss Beardesley had been in Budapest, where she had enjoyed the week’s programme of sight-seeing and entertainment arranged by the Hungarian National Council of Women in honour of the delegates.

WOMEN’S CLUB. Last night in the South Canterbury Women’s Clubrooms, members of the Music Circle, assisted by Dr. Fea and Mr R. Holdgate, gave a most delightful musical programme to members and their friends. Mrs G. A. Martin, chairwoman of the Circle, wore a frock of beige lace over henna taffeta, the skirt falling into points at the sides. Those who contributed to the programme were—Mrs C. S. Bruce, Mrs R. D.
