WAIMATE.

THE WEATHER. Fierce wind squalls, followed by heavy rain for some hours, were experienced in Waimate shortly after 11 o’clock on Tuesday night, and the hills nearby on Wednesday were covered with a sprinkling of snow. The weather is again fine, but a strong cold wind continues. • RUGBY. The following will represent Old Boys seniors v. Marist on Thursday:— N. Hodges, Gourlay, Dobbs, S. Walker, L. Milson, C. The annual meeting of the Waimate Collie Club was held in Dalgety’s rooms. Present—Messrs J. Mcßae (president), E. Davis, A. A. McKenzie, J. Bryson, A .Dench, J. Hicks, A. Baikie, A. Ottley, A. J. Mcßae, Geo. Hansen and D. Willcocks (hon. sec). The balance sheet, showing a credit of £lO/17/9, was adopted. In his annual report, the president stated that the annual trials had been held on the property of Mr J. Baikie, Elephant Hill, on 10th April. The credit of £lO/17/9 w r as a considerable falling off compared with the 1929 trials, but it could be accounted for in several ways. The Club was thankful to all those who had given donations, as without their support a debit balance would be shown. In conclusion, the president reminded members they must make greater efforts to stimulate interest in the affairs of the Club, or it would be impossible to carry on. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs J. Mcßae, E. Davis, J. Bryson, G. Hansen and A. J. Mcßae, was appointed to endeavour to arrange for suitable grounds near Waimate for the next trials. At the conclusion of the meeting the president, on behalf of the Club, made a presentation to Mr D. Wilcocks (hon. secretary), who is leaving the district. Mr Mcßae spoke of Mr Wilcocks’s many good qualities, and said they regretted very much his departure from the district. Mr Wilcocks had made a very energetic secretary, and nothing had been too mu6h trouble for him to do. Mr E. Davis and Mr G. Hansen endorsed the previous speaker’s remarks, and wished Mr Wilcocks every success. Mr Wilcocks suitably responded. ; ARNO PLAY. A most successful play, entitled “Good Morning Bill,” in aid # of the Girl Guides’ Fund, was given* in the Amo Soldiers’ Memorial Hall on Tuesday night. There was a large attendance, and the funds should substantially benefit as a result. A dance was held at the conclusion of the concert, music being provided by Mr L. McLauchlan, of Waimate, who kindly loaned a radio-gramophone. Mr A. Smart, of Oamaru, officiated at the piano for some of the dances, and Miss Grainger contributed a fancy dance. \ PERSONAL. Mr J. D. S.* Roberts, of Waimate, is leaving on Thursday on a holiday trip ' to Australia. BOXING.
