ATTACK ON HINDU TRADERS.
Grave Depression In India. RESULT FROM DISOBEDIENCE BOYCOTT. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright DELHI. July 15. The serious disturbances in the Kis horeganj Sab district of Mymensingh, broadly speaking, are a true form of attack by Moslem villagers on rich Hindu money-lenders, and are the effects of the civil disobedience boycott. The trade collapse is now beginning to affect the villagers, who, in this case, took vengeance on the nearest and handiest victims, the rioters operating over an area of some 150 square miles. For several days past they have carried on a campaign of lawlessness, looting and murder. In eight villages infuriated crowds vented their fury on the money-lend-ers, whose houses were sacked and looted. At Jangalia a mob of seevral thousand savagely attacked a Hindu moneylender named Krishna Chandra, killing the whole family of nine, with axes, setting fire to the house and flinging the bodies into the flames. Krishna stoutly defended them with a gun, until his ammunition gave out. A small body of police fired on the mob, but were forced to retreat. In other villages three were killed. The arrests totalled nearly 100.
