LOWER PAY FOR SHEARERS.
Men Resent Reduction. HUNDREDS CEASE WORK. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, July 16. Five hundred men employed in the Moree district have ceased work as a protest against the new pastoral award. Fifteen hundred Will meet in various j shearing sheds to-day. The officials of the Australian Workers’ Union take a grave view of the situation. The Dethridge award is regarded as the forerunner to many other measures to bring down wages. In Canberra it was suggested that the award will inspire an economic crisis, to which the conditions of recent years have been leading Australia. BASIC WAGE REDUCED. DECISION OF QUEENSLAND COURT. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received July 16, 9.0 p.m.) BRISBANE, July 16. The Industrial Court reduced the basic wage by 5/-, to £4 per week.
