SOCIAL NOTES.

Miss Mary Rolleston, LeCren’s Terrace. who was the guest of Mrs Eliot, Wellington, returned home yesterday. Mr and Mrs J. W. Fair, Douglas Street, who are on a visit to Christchurch, are expected home to-day. Mr and Mrs George Sutcliffe, Wellington, left on Tuesday on a trip to San Francisco.

Miss Helen Paterson, Sefton Street, will leave to-day to spend a few days in Dunedin. Mrs Line, who was staying with her mother. Mrs Hurst, has returned to Wellington.

Mrs Wilfred Howell, Cave, who is the guest of Miss Knubley, Sarah Street, will return home to-day.

Miss Phyllis Gray, of the staff of Queen Mary Hospital. Hanmer, is visiting her parents at Geraldine. The Misses Mac Lean, Waimate, have returned from a visit to Mrs C. W. F. Hamilton, Irishman’s Creek. Miss Loo Cartwright, Orbell Street, who had been staying with Mrs C. Kain, Orari, arrived yesterday to stay with Mrs E. P. Chapman, Salisbury. Mrs Ralph Innes, Orari, who is on a visit to Mr and Mrs George Gould, Christchurch, will return to South Canterbury at the end of the week. The friends of Miss Moya Taylor will be pleased to know that she is now convalescing, after being seriously ill for several weeks in a private hospital in Dunedin. Mr H. Clark (Christchurch), Mr L. F. Tanner (Wellington), Mr A. G. Hewitt. Mr G. Catto (Dunedin), Mr O. Anderson, Mr N. E. Tingy (Christchurch), Mr R. S. Clothier (Wellington), Mr T. H. Williams (Christchurch), Mr S. E. Carter (Rangiora), Mr W. L. Deacon, Mr L. Wilson, Mrs L. Wilson (Dunedin), were recent visitors at the Grosvenor. Advice has been received in Christchurch of the death of Mrs Constance Carrington, the wife of the Rev. C. W. Carrington, who, from 1913 to 1927, was Dean of Christchurch. Mrs Carrington died in hospital at Bath, England, where she and her husband had been living, after spending a lengthy period in Cornwall. She had been in ill-health for some months. She was 67 years of age.
