SPORTS ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Geraldine Sports Association was held in Mr J. Kennedy’s rooms on Monday evening. Present: Messrs D. Hatton (chairman), J. W. Miller, W. A. Sherratt. Geo. Loach, W. Hamilton, J. Mcllroy, and the secretary (Mr J. Kennedy). The president moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, stating that a successful tournament had been run on September 21st of last year. Unfortunately, through counter-at-tractions, the gate receipts had been £ll short of last ' year’s takings, but overhead expenses had been less than for the previous year. The balance brought forward from the previous year was £23 16s 2d. and the credit balance after completing the year’s working was £29 14s 6d, which, under the circumstances, was satisfactory. The motion was seconded by Mr W. A. Sherratt, and carried. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr T. D. Burnett, MP.; President, Mr Geo. Loach; vicepresidents, Messrs W. A. Sherratt; J. R. Lack and J. Mcllroy; committee, citizens’ representatives, Messrs F. Morgan and W. A. Sherratt; treasurer, Mr J. Lorimer; secretary, Mr J. Kennedy. Football Tournament. The Geraldine Football Club advised that the South Canterbury Rugby Union had granted them August 9th for their tournament; but had later withdrawn that date. —On making inquiries over the ’phone during the meeting, it was ascertained from the president of the South Canterbury Rugby Union (Mr H. H. Fraser) that the date had been withdrawn on account of the large number of lower grade games to be played. They hoped to be able to arrange for August 23rcL It was decided to make the primary school competition open this year. Mail; grounds committee, president to arrange. General. The president, secretary and Mr J. W. Miller were appointed to select medals for the competition; Mr Miller undertook to provide seating accommodation for the asphalt track. The following committee was appointed to make the draw:—The president, and Messrs Glover, Hatton, Hamilton, and Lorimer. It was decided to ask the Retail Committee to arrange to close the shops for the same hours as last year. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring president, and all who had assisted the Association during the year. GOLF DRAW. On Saturday next a bogey match will be played for the Feilden trophies. Kennedy, of Geraldine, has received .word that he has been reappointed to the executive of the New Zealand Country Racing Club Association. Mr T. A. Irving, who has been on the staff of the Bank of New Zealand at Geraldine for .some years past, has received notice of transfer to the Alexandra branch for relief duty. Mr W. F. W. Lewitt, of Ashburton, will take up permanent duty at Geraldine. Mr Q- Christophers, of the staff of the Bank of New South Wales, is at present in Invercargill. * Mr J. Kennedy, chairman of the South .Canterbury Power Board, will leave to-day for Wellington, where he will attend a Power Boards Conference. At a meeting? of the Victoria Lodge, No. 18, 1.0.0. F., motions of sympathy with Brothers J. Pye and C. Stringer I in their recent bereavements were ; passed in silence. MINIATURE RIFLES. A successful shoot was held by the Pleasant Valley Miniature Rifle Club j on Monday night, D. Shaw winning the trophy presented by Mr W. Shaw. The following were the scores off the rifle: D. Shaw 80, R. D. Waldie 75, J. Gregan 74, U. Mechen 72, R. G. Waldie 71, T. Robinson 70, T. Webb 74, VICTORIA LODGE. The fortnightly meeting of Victoria Lodge, No. 18, 1.0.0. F., was held on Monday night, Bro. P. Russell, N.G., presiding over a big attendance. The secretary reported that four brothers were on the sick list, and that two had been declared off. Accounts amounting to £75 were passed for payment. One candidate was initiated into the Lodge by the N.G. and his staff. N.G. Bro. P. Russell was successful in winning Bro. Len. Bennington’s prize for the conductor's charge. Bros. Patrick and Fyfe, who acted as judges, spoke highly of the brothers who had entered, and thanked Bro. Bennington for his donation. The D.D.G.M. Bro. H. Evans presented framed Past Grands certificates to P. Grands Bros. W. Borrell and E. H. Turner. He spoke highly of the work these brothers had done for Oddfellowship, and hoped they would value their certificates. Both brothers responded.
