LEVELS FATALITY.
MAN FOUND SHOT. WELL-KNOWN BUILDER. A well-known builder, of Levels, in the person of Mr Robert John Searles, was found lying on the ground some two chains from his home at about 12.30 o’clock yesterday. There was a wound on his left temple, and a pearifle was found lying close to the body. The police were notified by Mrs Greaves, a store-keeper at Pleasant Point. A constable was despatched to the scene of the tragedy, and a doctor was summoned. After an examination the doctor pronounced life to be extinct, and the body was transferred to deceased’s home. There was nothing to indicate that Mr Searles’ health had been anything but normal. When interviewed by the police, Mrs Searles stated that her husband did not appear to be worried or upset over anything, and she knew of nothing to warrant any suggestion that he was in trouble. He took his mid-day meal in the usual way, and there could be no suggestion that he was not in his customary normal state when she last saw him alive. An inquest will be held at mid-day to-day, after the rising of the Court.
