POTATO MARKET FLUCTUATING. 1 OATS REMAIN FIRM. I ; By Telegraph—Press Assoc*etlon ;. CHRISTCHURCH, July 15. / The potato market has weakened, s and to-day quotations have eased by l from 2/6 to 5/- a ton for “prompt” i and forward positions. There are a few • orders coming to hand, however, from s Auckland, and other parts also are • showing more activity. The next boat • the Waimarino, does not leave until Thursday or Friday. Growers are not inclined to sell, and they are strong holders. The quotation to farmers on trucks is £4 to £4 2s 6d, but recently there have been offers made from certain quarters of £4 5s and £4 10s. , There are some who believe that there ' are not as many potatoes available this year as in past yeans, and that ’ there will be a shortage. The oats market is fairly firm, with values unchanged. Local B Gartons : are worth 4/- f.0.b.5.i., and local A ; Gartons about 4/1 f.o.b.s.i. Southern ; quotations are 3/11 for “prompt” A i Gartons, and 3/9£ for B’s. For spread - delivery A’s are worth 3/11 to 4/-, and B’s 3/10. ! The chaff market is steady, with a few orders coming to hand. It has 1 been sold for prompt delivery at £6 ; 7s 6d to £7 a ton f.0.b.5.i., which is equivalent to £5 7s 6d to £5 10s on trucks. Chaff for later delivery is not offering in much quantity, but there is not a great deal of inquiry for it. The market for onions is very dull. They are worth from £2 10s to £3 10s on trucks, according to quality. It is many years since business in small seeds has been as dull as it is at present. The volume of business has fallen off, and orders have decreased by a big percentage. LONDON WOOL SALES. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyrigh c LONDON, July 14. At the wool sales 9266 bales were offered, including 1104 bales of New Zealand wool. About 8060 were sold. There was a large selection of super good style spinners’ sorts of Merinos, which met with brisk support. Other sorts were in small supply. Prices were unchanged. Yorkshire was buying nothing. The Bradford tops market is unchanged, but trade depression is being acutely felt. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following cable from its London office, dated July ll:—“Compared with the close of the last sales greasy New Zealand Merinos are slightly cheaper. Greasy crossbreds showed a hardening tendency since the opening of the sales.” TEMUKA STOCK SALE. The fortnightly stock sale was held ; yesterday, when the entry was not very j large. For the most part, stock sold j on a par with last week, although there ! was a sharp rise in value for pigs.
