MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING.

‘HERALD” SHIELD COMPETITION. SECOND ROUND. The second round of the “Herald” Shield competition was fired during the past two weeks. The results, which were computed during the week-end. disclose a very interesting state of affairs. The best performance was put up by the Washdyke team in Section 1. This team has improved its position in that section from fourth to first. The Timaru Fire Brigade maintains its position in the lead for the Lewis Cup for the best score off the rifle, with the very creditable total of 392. A better system of handicapping has been evolved, and the results show that more lively interest is going to be maintained, and that the Shield will be won by that team which consistently improves its shooting during the rounds fired.
