MINIATURE RIFLES.

GLENIT.T At. a public meeting field in the Gleniti schoolroom it was decided to form a miniature rifle club. The conveners invited Messrs W. E. Jones, president of the Timaru Miniature Rifle Club, and W. Duncan, president of the Timaru Defence Club, who gave interesting information, at the same time pointing out the advisability of starting a club in this flourishing district, and promising their hearty support. After some discussion it was decided that a club be formed to be called the Gleniti Miniature Rifle Club. The following officers were electi d: Patrons. Mr B. E. H. Tripp. Mr Edgar Jones. Mr W. T. A hearty vote of thanks to the speakers concluded the meeting.

WASHDYKE CLUB. A further shoot of the Washdyke Club was held on Tuesday night, a large percentage of members being present. A trophy presented by Mr W. Parlane was fired for in conjunction with the second round of the “Herald Shield,’’ and some of the best scores off the rifle were; P. Couper 80, S. Browne 79, R. Moore 79. J. King 78, K. Hunt 78. A. Ross 78, P. Applegarth 77, R. Coleman 77, W. Grant 76, W. Wood 74, D. Stocker 74. After one shoot-off P. Applegarth proved the winner of this trophy. Next Tuesday night will be the first round for a three night trophy donated by Mr J. Smith. TIMARU V. CLAREMONT. A team of ten riflemen from the Timaru Rifle Club shot a friendly match on Tuesday evening on the Claremont range. Following were the scores:— Timaru. —A. Agnew 80, W. A. Cowles 77, W. Malcolm 77. J. McKenzie 78. PEEL FOREST. The following were the best scores at the Peel Forest Men's Miniature Rifle Club shoot on Tuesday evening: F. Cain 78. A. Popple well 71, Heney 70, G. Stevenson 75, G. Fifleld 75, O. Keen 77. A match against Arundel will be held on Tuesday evening. ORARI BRIDGE LADIES. At the weekly shoot of the Orari Bridge Ladies’ Miniature Rifle Club the following were the best scores:— ! Mrs Tagg 73. Mrs Pratt 76, Mrs Wordsworth 74, Mrs Cain 79. Mrs Ivey 75, Mrs South 73, Mrs Cullen 70, Miss C. Rule 71, Miss T. Rule 75. The shoot during July is for Mr Martin’s trophy for the highest score off the rifle, and also for Mrs Pratt’s handicap trophy.
