STORY OF A PUPPY.
I am a little sheepdog puppy. lam always doing something wrong and getting Into trouble, and I am usually left tied up all day. I have a kennel which is placed beside a hedge In the warm sunshine. I am fed five times a day, and when the girl comes to feed me I jump up on her to welcome her. Sometimes she pats me, and other times she hits me across the nose. That is when she has a clean dress on and I soil It with my dirty paws. Sometimes, If the boys are going round the sheep, they let me loose to follow them and If any of the sheep are about I bark furiously at them and they get frightened and run away as fast as they can. When we come back from the sheep I run straight past my kennel and round to the back door to chase the cats. I love chasing cats. When the boys go to tie me up I run away down the paddock and bark at them, and they call me all sorts of funny names. Someday I have to go away and live with another man, and I hope he Is kind to me. (1 Mark and a Merit Card awarded to “Broken Doll"—Annie Rogers, Studholme, aged 13.)
LITTLE LAUGHS. Madam Adam. Teacher: Who was the first man? Bright Boy (promptly): Adam. Teacher: And who was the first woman? Dull Boy (hesitatingly): Er—Madam. A Work of Art.
