PERSONAL.
Mi* J. Todd returned to Timaru from Dunedin yesterday. Mr John Turton is at present in the hospital at Geraldine. Mr H. Wooding, Woodbury, will leave to-day for Auckland to attend the annual Bee Conference. Mr A. Ibbotson, who had been in Timaru on a short business visit, returned to Dunedin yesterday. Mr T. P. Crowe, Timaru manager for the Bristol Piano Co., is leaving shortly, to commence business on his own account.
The Rev. Clyde Carr M.P. and Mrs Carr wll leave to-day to attend the funeral of the late Sir Joseph Ward at the Bluff to-morrow. The Rev. J. K. Archer, Mayor of Christchurch, returned north from Balclutha by the first express train yesterday. Mr A. Rodgers, who has played a prominent part in the activities of the Star senior fifteen, has accepted position with the Mount Cook Tourist Company, and is to leave to-day for the Hermitage. Members of the Star Club, met Mr Rodgers last night, and in recognition of their appreciation of his associations with the Club, presented him with a pocket wallet.
Before commencing the business of yesterday’s meeting of the South Canterbury Hunt Club a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr E. R. Guinness was passed, the chairman (Mr C. L. Orbell), stating that Mr Guinness had been a most enthusiastic member in the early, days, and had maintained his interest in the Club up till the time of his death. The Ministerial party, which leu, Wellington last nrht for Invercargill, to attend the funeral of Sir. Josepu Ward included the Hon. G. W. Forbes, Prime Minister, the Hon. Sir A. T. Ngata, the Hon. H. Atmore, the Hon. W. A. Veitch, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, the Hon. W. B. Taverner, the Hon. J. B. Donald, the Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, the Hon. Sir Thomas Sidey, the Hon. S. G. Smith and the Hon. J. A. Murdoch.
