RAILWAY DISMISSALS.
PROTEST FROM AUCKLAND. By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, July 10. As a protest against the dismissals of casual hands, a large meeting of railwaymen, held at Otahuhu workshops, stated that in addition to fifty men whose notice would expire this week, 38 men had to-day received a week’s notice, making 88 dismissals from a staff of 1000. A resolution of protest criticised the recent increases in the salaries of members of the first division, and called on the Minister to justify this. Superannuation payments also were criticised.
