RAILWAY “CUTS.”
ADDINGTON MEN PROTEST. By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, July 9. At a mass meeting of employees at Addington workshops to-day, the following resolution was carried:— That this mass meeting of employees at Addington workshops enter an emphatic protest against continued dismissal of railway employees. We respectfully call upon the Government and the Minister of Railways in particular, to show some justification for denying aged men of the service and others the right to live,” and, further, that the Hon. Minister be called upon to give some explanation for the retention of such a large army of high-salaried officers in his Department, whilst he is slaughtering the rank and file in spite of long service and the grave position existing regarding unemployment.”
