CRISIS IN MALTA.
ATTITUDE OF THE HOLY SEE. United Press Association—Ey Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received July 10. 12.40 a.m.) LONDON, July 9. “The Times” correspondent at Malta says it is evident that the Holy See has no present intention of fulfilling the conditions which the British Government declares will be indispensable to the resumption of full diplomatic relations. The Vatican’s official organ. “Osservatore Romano,” publishes a long article, the gist of which is a denial of undue interference on the part of Maltese bishops in party politics. The article mr ntains that the bishops had a right and a dpty to warn the electors against Lord Strick- > land’s pretensions to be persona grata with the Vatican, and insists on the maintenance of the guarantees for the defence of the Catholic religion, given when the British Government first assumed possession of the Island.
