BAG-SNATCHING
WELLINGTON WOMEN ROBBED. By Telegraph—Pres* Association. WELLINGTON, July 7. Residents of Kelburn are concerned about cases of assault and bag-snatch-ing, which have occurred in broad daylight. The offences took place on a path that runs through the Botanical Gardens. The path is used frequently as a short cut by most of the residents in the vicinity. A young woman was walking along this path in the early part of Friday afternoon, when, it is reported, a man came up behind her and struck her on the head with a bar of iron wrapped in brown paper. He snatched her handbag and disappeared. Suffering great pain, the young woman managed to drag herself to a nearby house, where she received attention until the arrival of a doctor, who found it necessary to put stitches in the wound on her head. A few minutes after the assault a resident of Wesley Road walked along the pathway, and found on the ground a book, a parasol, and a bar of iron. She immediately reported this to the police. Another case of bag-snatching was reported from the same locality a few minutes later. The victim in this instance was more fortunate than tb other woman, for she was not assaulted.
