CULTIVATE OPTIMISM.
GOVERNOR’S ADVICE TO FRUITGROWERS. By Telegraph—PreM Aaa^UUon. WELLINGTON, July 1. An optimistic note regarding the future of the fruit-growing industry in New Zealand was struck by the Gov-ernor-General (Lord Bledisloe), when speaking at the New Zealand Fruitgrowers Federation to-day. His Excellency referred to some of the problems confronting fruit-grow- ! ers, but pointed out that there were other factors which should inspire New Zealand growers considerable confiI dence. Incidentally he urged growers Ito cultivate otpimism with the same zeal as they cultivated fruit. He laid stress on the importance of the maintenance of a uniform standard of quality and soundness in the export of fruit. He warmly congratulated New Zealand and the growers on having achieved this season a record fruit export of 1.334,600 cases of hard fruit, of which 127.500 consisted of apples, and on having obtained for this produce, unlike many ther primary products of this country, an average price per case which should leave growers an appreciable margin of profit, without any drain upon the national finances in implementing the Govei*nment gross guarantee of 11s per case.
