AUSTRALIA’S TRADE.
PRIME MINISTER’S VIEWS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) CANBERRA. June 2. The Prime Minister is of the opinion that Australia should be represented by a Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, just as the New Zealand Government is to be represented here by Mr L. J. Schmitt. Mr Scullin states that the Australian trade with the Dominion has fallen £2,000,000 in five years. He has arranged for the Hon. J. E. Fenton to call in at New Zealand on his way Home to investigate the position. TRADE RECIPROCITY. APPOINTMENT OF COMMISSIONER NOT CONTEMPLATED. While agreeing to the desirability of Australia having a trade and tourist Commissioner to New Zealand, the Minister for Markets (Mr Maloney) said that such an appointment was not immediately contemplated.
