CORRECTION.
Tr* the EcUt.o- of the " Timaru Herald.” Sir. —I shall feel much obliged to you if you will allow me a small space in your columns to make a slight correction in the published report of a special meeting of the Borough Council. held on Thursday evening last. The last paragraph in the report of m.y speech on Sunday Sport reads:—“lf a majority of the citizens required a change—and so far there had been no indication given in this direction—then he (Councillor Benstead) would oppose any. alteration.” This should have read:—“Then he (Councillor Benstead) would not oppose any alteration.” I made it quite clear that up to the present the citizens had made no request to the Borough Council to open the Municipal Parks and Reserves for Sunday sport. Further. I stated that before the Council decided this question, it was only right and proper that a poll should be taken. This poll could be taken without expense to the ratepayers at the next election of the Council. In conclusion, I said that, as it is the usual custom for the majority to rule, I would not oppose the opening of the Parks and Reserves if it were found that the majority of the citizens desired it.—l am, etc., GEORGE BENSTEAD. Timaru, April 28.
