DUMPING FEARED.

EFFECT OF AUSTRALIAN TARIFF. By Telegraph—Pre*» Aaaoclatlan. WELLINGTON, April 29. At a meeting of the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association to-night, the secretary reported the receipt of the following telegram from the Christchurch Association: —“Is the Federation taking any action re dumping as a result of the Australian tariff, in view of cheap imported goods reoffered here from Australia?” The secretary reported that he had seen Mr D. G. Craig, Controller of Customs, who said that his Department was watching the matter very closely. He had replied to Christchurch that it was doubtful if anything further could be done in the meantime, but asked if specific instances could be given where goods were being redirected to New Zealand from Australia. The matter of unstamped imported boots coming into New Zealand had also been mentioned, and if there was any evidence of this the Customs Department would like to be advised on the subject.
