At a contract price of £24,751, the tender of Mr J. L. McMillan, Wellington, has been accepted for the construction of the new western wing of the Wellington Technical College.— (Press ASjgnJ At yesterday’s meeting of the Waimate County Council, Mr J. Bitchener, M.P. (chairman), referred to the remarks passed by the South Canterbury Automobile Association regarding the new paving on the Main South Road. Personally, he used the road practically every day in the week, and could find no fault with it. Further, the chairman of the South Island Motor Union had assured the speaker that the job was the best of its kind in the Dominion. A new element has beer, introduced into the Christchurch City Council affairs by Councillor E. A. Armstrong. A son of Mr H. T. Armstrong, M.P.: he was elected to the Council in the Labour ticket, but at Monday’s meeting he said:—“l am not satisfied that municipal enterprise is the best policy to adopt from the ratepayers’ point of view. I claim the right to change my opinions. When I was elected to this council, I was educated along a certain line, but since I have been associated with fnen with other views, I have changed my opinions in regard to municipal enterprise.”
