ABNORMAL SET OF CURRENT.

SEA PHENOMENON REPORTED. (United Press Association—By Electrie T elegraph—Copyright.) (Received April 28, 9.0 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 28. Captain Sewell reports that J;he temperature of the sea rose steadily as the Maunganui approached the Australian coast. The last recording was 74 degrees. Another unusual occurrence was that the liner encountered a set in the current of 3.1 knots to the east, thus impeding the progress of the vessel, which between noon yesterday and 8 a.m. to-day was sixty-five miles behind the distance logged. The wind was from the south.

Captain Sewell said the strongest set he had previously experienced approaching Sydney from New Zealand was one knot.

The same phenomenon was met by the Aorangi, when she arrived on Friday from Auckland. Two stowaways, Australians, who were aboard the Maunganui, were handed to the police.
