SOUTH CANTERBURY RUGBY UNION. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the South Canterbury Rugby Union was held last night: present—Messrs D. Hertnon (chairman), H. H. Fraser, W. Harte. J. Roseveare, G. F. Doyle, J. Harley, W. J. Watson, D. Fairbrother, S. Williams. A. B. Rowlands, A. B. Herdman. Reference was made in tb~ minutes to the replacement of playeis, but Mr Fraser said that what it should have referred to was the definition of a mark. Last Saturday referees had approached him, and he had said that the Union had not discussed the matter, and he advised them to play the old rules. He considered that the Union should make a decision that night. The chairman said "■'.at he considered that the Union should revert to the old rules only in so far as they referred to the kick-into-touch. Mr Harte moved, and Mr Williams seconded, along those lines, the motion being carried. Mr Williams made reference to the decision of the Union to cut out ladies’ passes for coaches. He said that a number of people had approached him. and had stated that if the privilege was not granted, some ol them would have to give up active coaching. After brief discussion it was decided not to take any action in the matter. The Old Boys’ Club acknowledged a letter from the Union’ stating that R. Matthews had been regraded from third to junior grade. The club asked the Union to reconsider its decision, however, as the cluh was hard pushed for third grade players. The matter was referred to the Permit Committee. • The Zingari Club notified that V. McKeague had his collarbone broken in the match against Old Boys on Saturday, and asked that he be placed on the insurance list, the club also notified that owing to a misunderstanding, the third-grade team had to forfeit to High School. The fixture was not published, and the team concluded they had drawn a bye or had won by default. The first part of the letter was referred to the Insurance Committee. The club’s explanation in regard to the third grade team was accepted. The Wanganui Union wrote confirming July 23 as the date for the match South Canterbury v. Wanganui. The secretary of the Tengawai Club wrote asking the Union’s ruling on a position which had arisen through affiliation with the Mackenzie SubUnion. When the Sub-Union held its annual meeting, the Tengawai Club had not met. The Club was not represented at the Sub-Union meeting, and the non-representation was taken to mean that the Club was not entering teams, and the competition was drawn up accordingly. Later, interest revived by the return of some old players had enabled the Club to field a strong senior team as well as a junior team. Subsequently a deputation waited on the Sub-Union, but affiliation was disallowed. This meant that the playing members of the Club were deprived of a season’s football. The Club desired to know if the Sub-Union haci power to refuse the request for affiliation. The chairman said that the position was strange. He could not understand the Sub-Union refusing affiliation, when a while back they were short of players. Further discussion was taken in committee, and it was eventually decided to secure a report on the matter from the Sub-Union. The Pleasant Point Club notified that they had been forced to withdraw their fourth grade team from the competition. It was decided to ask the Star Club for an explanation as to why its fourth grade team failed to take the field against Geraldine on Saturday last. The Star Club wrote stating that on Saturday last its fifth grade team played on No. 2 ground at Geraldine. The playing area was in a very bad condition. Patches of clover approximately two feet high were numerous on the field, and, although the Club did not desire the Union to view the letter as a protest, it was of the opinion that the ground should be put in order.—lt was decided to draw the attention of the Geraldine Club to the condition of the ground. The chairman said that the secretary was to be complimented on the programme issued last week. The public .had commented most favourably on the issue, and he thought that the issue of an enlarged programme was a step in the right direction. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY. Senior. Old Boys v.
