Archdeacon Hansell and Mrs Hansell, of Lower Hutt. to Walter Ernest Detheridge, son of Mrs E. D. Davies and the late E. D. Davies, of Colombo, Ceylon. The ceremony took place at St. James’s Church, Lower Hutt, which was artistically decorated with masses of pink, blue, and green hydrangeas, chrysanthemums, and autumn leaves, with charming effect. A beautiful bell, made by MissEllis, was suspended in front of the altar. The service was fully choral, all the choir being present, with Miss Harte at the organ. The ceremony was performed by the grandfather of the bride, Archbishop Julius. The bride was escorted by her father, and wore a graceful gown of ivory satin georgette and Honiton lace, the beautiful veil of Honiton having been previously worn by her great-great-grandmother. Her bouquet was of white dahlias and maidenhair fern. Miss G. Hansell, as bridesmaid, was in a dainty frock of hydrangea blue spotted net over silk to tone, her wide felt hat being of a paler shade of blue. She carried a bouquet of pink, blue, and green hydrangeas. with blue streamers, and wore the bridegroom’s gift, a necklace of rhinestones. Mr T. T. N. Coleridge, Wellington, was best man. The wedding reception was held at St. James’s vicarage, where Archdeacon and Mrs Hansell received the guests. Mrs Hansell wore navy crepe de chine, with touches of fawn, and a velour hat to tone. Her bouquet was in shades of pink and mauve. Tea was served in a marquee on the lawn, and speeches were made by Archbishop Julius and Bishop Sprott. Amongst the guests were Miss Julius (aunt of the bride), who wore a frock of navy blue marocain with steel studded panels, and hat to tone. Mrs Sprott wore grey lace over black silk, with black Bangkok hat. Mrs Allan Johnston was in a fawn marocain frock with Oriental front and hat of royal blue velour. Lieutenant Elworthy, A.D.C., cousin of the bride, and Mr Davies, a brother of the bridegroom, were also present. The bride’s travelling costume was of pinky-fawn wool-backed crepe de chine with a pleated skirt, finished with a collar and cuffs of georgette. Her coat was of vieux rose colour and her hat to tone. Amongst the varied and beautiful gifts were many representative of the various organisations in the church —a beautiful silver tea service from the vestry and parishioners,- a case of servers and a bound copy of hymns from the Sunday School, a beautiful picture from the Boys’ Bible Class, and an oak bowl from the Belmont Young Men’s Club. A clock was an artistic present from the staff and pupils in Chilton Saint James, whilst a unique and beautiful gift was a painting of Wellington Harbour by Mrs Stowe, an artist of over ninety years.
