BOWS

THE BUTTERFLY CULT. This season Fashion demands bows—bows everywhere, some like exaggerated, exotic butterflies, perched as though ready for flight in the most unexpected places; some neat and fiat and trim. Evening dresses lend themselves most kindly to the butterfly cult. One enchanting model in flowered taffeta had an enormous double-looped bow at the waist, fastened by a gleaming buckle, with ends widening out into a graceful, sweeping train. Another, in georgette of the softest green, had a series of four tiny, softly knotted bows down the back of the bodice. Yet another, again of taffeta, had the front fullness “tailored” into four box pleats—a startling effect for an evening frock, made even more unexpected by a delightfully incongruous bustle bow. But evening frocks did not have a monopoly on bows. Jumpers, too, must have their bows. A charming one of heavy crepe de chine in a new deep green shade had a stitched-down collar with tie ends, lined with white and knotted in a soft bow. Tailored coats have a neat tiny bow on the back of the collar, quite in keeping with the charming inconsequential turn the new season’s fashions have taken.
