Following on a sharp frost, tiic weather was cold but tine for early work at Riccarton this morning. Conditions became milder after the interval, and many of the trainers patronised the course proper. There were no sensational performances ,but a lot of interesting gallops were registered. Greenaway, Jaloux and Swiftray were associated in a three-furlong sprint, finishing as named in 37 2-ssec. Paquito reeled off five furlongs in lmin 1 4-ssec. In spite of a tendency towards soreness in front, he hit out in great style, registering a brilliant performance. Giggleswick ran home from the three-furlong post in 39sec. Courtlike beat Gold Mint by two lengths over a mile in lmin 46sec, the first half-mile being done in 52 l-ssec. They carried fair weights Winsome Hind dashed over half a mile in 50sec, a smart effort. Semper Paratus and Straightcourse were companions over seven furlongs. Semper Paratus having half a length advantage at the finish. The first halfmile was done in 50 2-ssec and the full journey in lmin 30 2-ssec, a useful gallop. Spoon occupied lmin 3 3-ssec for five furlongs and was not bustled at the finish. Rapina beat Turnover over six furlongs in lmin 18sec. Waterline and Full Feather were companions in a mile gallop. They

covered the first five furlongs in lmin 4 3-ssec. with Full Feather showing in front, and finished up their task in lmin 44sec. Waterline had a slight advantage at the winning post, where both horses were going well. First Sight,, with Craigavon as a mate for the iast five, covered six furlongs in lmin 17 2-ssec, the last halfmile being done in 51sec. The Great Easter candidate was going in good style at the end. Hounslow and The Bailiff occupied lmin 19 2-ssec fd* six furlongs, but they were not ridden out. Netley ran seven furlongs by herself in lmin 32 2-ssec, going well at the finish. After Ten and Lancer were companions over a mile, which they left behind in lmin 48 3-ssec. Leader finished just in front of The Viscount at the end of six furlongs, which they left behind in lmin 16sec. This was the fastest effort of the morning over the distance, and both went very pleasingly. Toawai sprinted half a mile in 51 4-5 sec. He has grown into an attractive looking horse. Greyflnch ran six furlongs in lmin j 17 2-ssec, at an even pace all the i way. Malmsey occupied lmin 33 2-ssec for seven furlongs, but was not unduly hurried. Great Star was the first horse to gallop on the grass, his task being seven furlongs in lmin 31sec. Hovlake ran seven furlongs on the grass in lmin 30sec, going freely and finishing well. Don Jose, with Pixie Gold as a mate for the last six furlongs, ran a mile on the plough in lmin 47 2-ssec. Silver Coot occupied lmin 4 2-ssec. | for five furlongs on the plough, and could have done better. The two-year-old Pharaoh sprinted half a mile up the back, on the grass. ! in 51sec. Quarterdeck took lmin 33 2-ssec for j seven furlongs on the grass, but did it comfortably. \ Noteworthy was given an easy mn over si furlongs, finishing in lmin 20 j 2-ssec, a performance which Troilus equalled. Gay Sonnet covered six furlongs on ! the plough m lmin 13sec. Merry Peel and Adelphi were associated over five furlongs on the grass. ! the former finishing in front in lmin : 2 3-ssec. a useful gallop. Aberfeldy and Gala Day were given | strong work on the plough. Ranelagh ran seven furlongs on the grass in lmin 30sec, going freely all the way. and it was a smart effort. Miss Nightraid occupied lmin 21sec for six furlongs on the plough, where Honeycomb can five in lmin 5 ]-ssec Solo-el e was given an easy task over five furlongs. Tariff showed his customary brilliancy in doing five furlongs on the grass in lmin 1 3-ssec. Te Awhina broke away at the seven furlongs, and. after going about three furlongs alone. Eaton Hall joined in. Te Awhina cleared out from her mate over the last part of the journey, doing the full journey in lmin 30sec anu taking 52-sec for the last half-mile. Flaxbird beat Night Recital over half a mile on the grass in 50 2-ssec. Zeuxis beat Pahautanui over five furlongs on the grass in lmin 4 4-ssec. Gay Crest galloped seven furlongs on the grass, taking lmin 34sec to complete his task. He worked very lazily, and apparently did not appreciate going by himself. Sleinner dashed over five furlongs on the plough in lmin 2sec., in his customary frep style. Amorist covered six furlongs on the plough in lmin 19sec.
