ATTACK ON THE “ TALKIES.”
Views Of Australian Board
VALUE OF SILENT FILMS. (United Press Association—By fflectrlo T el egraph—Copy rlgh t.) (Received April 15, 10.30 p.m.) CANBERRA, April 15. The annual report of the Commonweath Film Censorship Board reveals that British films require twice as much cutting as American. The report attacks the “talkies,” and says the loss of the desirable characteristics of the silent picture outweighs any advantages that sound may have brought. During 1929, films imported into Australia numbered 2932, of which 2322 came from America, 343 from the United Kingdom, and 267 from other countries.
