THROWN FROM HORSE. By Telegraph—Press Association. NAPIER. April 10. Sheila, a twelve-year-old daughter of Mr W. Cuthbert, Waipukurau, suffered I severe head injury when thrown from ‘ a horse this afternoon. The young rider was taking the horse across a footpath to enter a gate. The animal stumbled, throwing the girl head down on the concrete pavement. The girl is now in a serious condition in Waipukurau Hospital. FATAL COLLISION. By Telegraph—Pres* Association. WANGANUI. April 10. Archibald L. Melville, farm manager, of Turakina, was killed instantaneously to-day, when a motor-cycle he was riding collided with a three-seater coupe. Deceased was riding to attend the Wanganui trotting meeting, and ap- i parently was on the wrong side of the road. His machine struck the left- j hand front portion of a car driven by John Stewart, motor salesman, of Marton, which was being driven outward from the city. The collision was of a severe nature, and occurred on the Auckland-Wellington main highway, about a mile from Wanganui City boundary, on a tar-sealed surface. Deceased's head was practically shattered, and death was instantaneous. He was a single man. aged 27. with a brother residing at Kakaramea. VAN DRIVER’S ESCAPE. By Telegraph—Preaa Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, April 10. Victor Milne, a young man. had a remarkable escape to-day when a delivery van he was driving hurtled over a 20-foot bank and burst into flames. Milne, when at a corner, met a car driven by a woman. He swerved to avoid a collision, and his van crashed through a fence and rolled down a bank. Milne extricated himself from the damaged vehicle in time to escape burns. He went to a nearby house for assistance, and returning to the scene, fainted. His condition to-night was satisfactory, extensive bruising being his only apparent injury apart from shock. FATALITY IN MINE. By Telegraph—Press Association. WESTPORT, April 10. At the inquest touching the death of David Alexander Gordon Marr, a shotfirer, a verdict was returned that death was due to a broken neck caused by deceased striking the coal roof of a travelling road on the Westport Coal Company’s Deep Creek section of the Iron Bridge mine. JOCKEY INJURED. By Telegraph— Press Association. AUCKLAND. April 10. While schooling Salamande over the steeples at Ellerslie this morning. C. McNeil received a broken collarbone when the horse fell. COLLIDED WITH COW. By Telegraph—Press c.ssocj*tlr’-v CHRISTCHURCH. April 10. David Shaw (21), was sent to hospital with concussion. His condition is serious. This was the result of being wn off a motorcycle through a collision with a cow.
