PORT OF NEW PLYMOUTH.

Dy Telegraph—Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, April 10. At a Harbour Board meeting, reference was made to rumours circulating recently in South Taranaki that the Port of New Plymouth could not accommodate the larger vessels trading to the Dominion, and consequently it was necessary to send dairy produce coastwise to Wellington. The harbourmaster (Captain Waller) reported that the recent fine weather rendered possible extensive soundings. The ocean, he added, ran practically to the wharves without channel or bar. No current was produced by the tides. The chairman said that the fairway was 1000 feet wide, with a minimum depth of 24 feet at low water. In reply to a question, Captain Waller said: ‘The port can accommodate any vessels that come to the Dominion.’’ OVERSEAS. (United Press Association—By XlectrU Telegraph—Copyright.) SUVA, April 10.
