THE GOVERNORGENERAL.
PASSES THROUGH TIMARU. His Excellency the GovernorGeneral (Lord Bledisloe), accompanied by Lady Bledisloe, Mr A. C. Day (official secretary), and Sir John Hanham and Lieutenant J. Elworthy, R.N., (aides-de-camp) passed through Timaru by the first express yesterday for Dunedin. Their Excellencies disembarked at Timaru, and chatted freely with members of the public, who were present. His Excellency stated that he was greatly impressed with the ’ people of New Zealand, and with the scenic beauties of the country. He also remarked that he had thoroughly enjoyed the trip from Christchurch to Timaru, the beautiful weather prevailing having enabled members of the party to secure a splendid view of the mountains and Alps. Lieutenant Elworthy, who is a son of Mr A. S. Elworthy, “Holme Station,” was met at the station by members of his family. His Excellency, who, as is well known, is a keen agriculturalist, stated that he was keenly looking forward to visiting this district, and of inspecting some of the farms. Their Excellencies will remain in Dunedin for two days, and will then return to Wellington.
