An engagement having some interest for New Zealand was announced on Saturday. It is between William Edmund, younger son of Sir Waliter and Lady Halsey, of Gnddesden Place, Hemel Hempstead, and Barbara Dorothea, daughter of the late Mr C. L. Orr Ewing, of Dunskey, Portpatrick, and of Lady Augusta Inskip. Lady Jellicoe’s brother, Major Sir Herbert Cayzer, and his wife, are back again on another brief visit to the Dominion. After spending a couple of days in Wellington, where they were asked to lunch at Government House by Their Excellencies, they proceeded to Taupo and Rotorua. They are only ( staying about a month and are accom- ] panied by their daughter. J This generation is extraordinarily - generous. It does everything on a com- ; munal basis, and carries out its ideas so thoroughly that even honeymoons are shared (states an English writer). , Bride and bridegroom go off alone ' after the reception, but, inside a week, - have joined a party of friends, or been ' joined by them. They do nothing to ' secure the solitude old-fashioned folk used to work so desperately hard to safeguard. Half a dozen recent society brides and bridegrooms have : joined up on the Riviera in the last few weeks. One of the Ruthven twins, ' married last year, got straight on a boat with her husband, and the two ' joined in every social function en route to New York where they spent a few 1 weeks surrounded all the time by friends. The Aga Khan has taken his ■ bride, and her sister, to Italy, on the honeymoon tour. Helen Wills and her husband are spending their nuptial , holiday with a crowd’of young folk on a walk.
