NEW HAND-GRIP.

APPROVED BY RAILWAYMEN. By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, April 9. At a meeting of the Otago branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, a new hand-grip on railway wagons was commented upon. ; Some months ago, Mr R. M. FerI guson. of South Dunedin, submitted | for the Board’s inspection a model of 1 a new type of hand-grip. The invention allowed a tarpaulin to slip down behind the grip, which was thus left clear for instant use. The old type of grip is covered up and not available when the wagons are sheeted. At the time members thought the idea an excellent one. Mr Ferguson has since submitted his invention to the Railway Department, and it is noted with satisfaction that the Department is fitting the new grip to all wagons coming out of the .hops. Shunters, guards and all concerned express the utmost satisfaction with the new device, and hope the Department will recognise the value of it when treating with Mr Ferguson for its use.
